Steph's top 7 self love tips for this Valentines

Valentine’s Day isn’t just for couples – it’s also a fun excuse to celebrate yourself, too! Self-love is essential for mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Whether you're spending the day alone or just want to carve out some me-time amidst the chaos of a busy lifestyle, here are a few simple and practical self-care ideas to give yourself a little extra love this Valentine's Day (and ideally; every single day that you can!)

1. Enjoy a healthy and indulgent snack

A lot of the time when we think of self-care, we think of things we can do to pamper our external body - things like getting a facial, our hair or nails done etc. But what we put INTO our bodies can be just as much (if not more) of a powerful and important act of self-care and self-love. When you fuel your body with nutrient-rich foods, you're giving yourself the energy, vitamins, and minerals needed to feel your best. It’s not just about maintaining physical health; healthy eating also supports emotional well-being by stabilising mood, providing energy, and reducing stress. Plus, who says you can't have the best of both worlds? Choosing a snack that nourishes your body but still satisfies your cravings is the ultimate way to treat yourself better.

2. Take yourself out on a coffee (or tea) date

There’s something incredibly comforting about the ritual of getting a coffee or tea out at your local cafe - while it may not be the most cost-effective habit, it can certainly be a much-needed treat and act of self-care.  You don’t need company to enjoy this moment – head to a local coffee shop, order your favourite drink, and savour the quiet solitude! Even better if you can take a book/your Kindle or simply people-watch as you relax. It’s the ultimate peaceful moment to step away from the hustle, indulge in a comforting ritual, and enjoy a quiet break to recharge.

3. Give yourself the gift of disconnection with a digital detox

We’re all glued to our screens – social media, emails, and work notifications can feel never-ending. If you’re anything like me, you probably have moments when throwing your phone or laptop out the window feels like a great idea! But, the better option is to take some time out and give yourself the gift of disconnection. Take an afternoon or evening to unplug from your phone, laptop, and all things digital. Use that time to immerse yourself in something you love, whether that’s reading a book, taking a walk, or trying a new hobby. Not only will you feel more present, but it also gives your mind a chance to recharge.

4. Create a DIY spa day at home

You don’t need to go to a fancy spa to feel pampered. Transform your bathroom into a relaxing safe space with a DIY spa experience. Light some candles or set up a reed diffuser, run a warm bath with your favourite essential oils or bath salts, and play your favourite (ideally soothing) music. If you want to go the extra mile, give yourself a mini facial with a face mask or exfoliate your skin with a sugar scrub!

5. Take a mindful walk in nature

Going for a walk outside is a powerful act of self-care and self-love, as it boosts your mood, clears your mind, reduces stress, and improves physical health by increasing circulation and releasing endorphins, all while helping you get some sunshine, fresh air and your daily dose of nature.

6. Set a new personal goal

This is one of my favourite and most meaningful forms of self care - giving yourself the gift of growth. Take a moment to think about a new personal goal you’d like to pursue. It could be as simple as practicing gratitude every day, learning a new skill or fitness milestone (for me, this has been learning how to do chin ups and the monkey bars!). Setting intentions for personal growth and self-improvement - no matter how big or small the goals are - really helps you feel empowered, and like you’re doing something solely for you.

7. Indulge in a favourite TV show or a movie marathon

Sometimes, the best self-care is simply doing what makes you happiest - no productivity required. If there’s a TV show or movie that always makes you feel cozy, joyful, or inspired, treat yourself to a binge session. Create the perfect movie night atmosphere with comfy blankets, your favourite snacks, and your favourite sweatpants.

Self-care is about recognising your own worth and taking the time to nourish you. So take a pause and give yourself the love and attention you deserve - you don’t need to wait for someone else to do that for you! Whether you’re indulging in a treat, finding peace in nature, or simply enjoying a quiet moment alone, these small acts of self-love can make a world of difference in your overall well-being ❤️
