Embrace the festivities: 3 simple tips for a joyful and wholesome holiday season

While Christmas and New Year’s are packed with joy, celebrations, and cherished moments with loved ones, the busy season can sometimes make it tricky to stick to your usual healthy habits. The good news? We're sharing our top 3 tips that can help you embrace the festivities while still prioritizing your wellbeing.

Change your perspective: see the festive season as a reset
It’s normal to overindulge during this time or fall short of a few of your normal workouts. The good news is, a few days of eating more & moving less will make very little difference to your health & progress in the long run. In fact, if anything, the extra rest and variety in your diet may be just what your body needs to recharge and come back more energised and well-rested in the New Year!  See this time as a little break, deload in training or just an essential pause in your journey - savour it and let it set yourself up for future success.

Keep yourself satisfied!
One of the most common traps people fall into is ‘compensating’ for an upcoming event or big meal by limiting what they eat earlier in the day. While it may seem counterintuitive, regular eating is actually the first step to preventing uncontrollable cravings & overeating! Don't leave your eyes bigger than your stomach - keep yourself satisfied across the day with regular, nutrient-dense meals and high-protein snacks like our Bites and Bars, just as you would on any other day.

Festive celebrations

Take a plate
Whether it be a work function, a get together with your closest friends or Christmas day with the family, it always pays to take a plate of something you enjoy eating with you. Not only is it polite and generous, but if you’re gluten free, vegan or have other special dietary means, this gives you peace of mind that there’s something you can comfortably eat without anxiety - or worse, missing out altogether.  With only two ingredients necessary, you could easily whip up a batch of our Gingerbread Protein Balls to take for everyone to enjoy!

Eat mindfully and enjoy it fully
With the plethora of delicious foods on offer during the festive season, really try to make an effort to be present when eating so that you can whole-heartedly enjoy it and move on comfortably! Pay attention to the colour, smell, texture, flavour & temperature of the food, remove distractions when eating (i.e. any screens) & put your cutlery down between each bite to slow you down!

Going away on holiday?
Pack some easy, portable snacks like our Bars and Bites in your bag when you’re away for the day, or even a few days. This will ensure you have the right food handy, instead of trying to go hours without food or reaching for a sugar hit that won’t give you lasting energy to enjoy your holiday activities.

Most importantly - carve out time for yourself and to spend with your loved ones/the people who truly make you feel appreciated. It’s a big time of year, so be kind to yourself.

~ Merry Christmas, with love & snacks
